This is what the main components look like after disassembly. The first step is to drain the oil from the forks. The next step is to remove the allen screw from the bottom of the fork leg. I found this to be easier if the springs are still in the forks. The pressure from the fork springs help keep the cartridge from spinning. After the allen screw is removed the fork tube should easily separate from the lower leg. At this point the cartridge will still be held to the fork tube by an inner snap ring. Use snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring and the cartridge should release from the fork tube. Next remove the snap ring that sits on top of the fork seal and carefully remove the fork seal. I put the fork leg in a vise and use a small pry bar, but it's really important to apply even pressure and not crack or distort the fork leg. |
