1974 Yamaha SC500 for sale at the 2021 Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction
that is very extra great. look at the high shouldered polished wheels. modern front tire looks terrible. the pipe dent could be filled in with filler. needs a black gas cap vent tube. shock springs should be chrome. kick start lever should not be black. all small easy to change stuff. it's such a very cool bike.
I had one of these. The dealer was a friend of mine. I walked into his shop and spotted it, Wow, it was beautiful. It was in great shape, but I could tell it had been lightly handled. I test rode it on a traffic island in front of his shop. It was a blast. It could carry a wheelie for as long as you wanted. It was also a brute if you didn't know how to work the clutch. He said none of the guys he sponsored would race it after they rode it, It seems it was hard to predict when the power band band would kick in . They hated it. So it was bought by me. I could tell it needed some tuning. I asked what he wanted for it and he cut me a deal I then took it to a shop that a friend owned and asked him to tune it for mid-range, changed out the suspension and tires, replace the chain with a Regina chain. Swapped out the handlebars. I rode Cross Country races( like a mix of enduro's and mx). I had him put a Lectron carburator on it and changed out the chain for a Regina. out th tires an I was a happy man. Maicos were very good motorcycles, I won about won three races on it. It wore out, but it also wore me out. I sold it to a guy I knew and he used it to fun ride at Ft.Hood. He was a Police Officer married to a gal whose Dad was the General in command at Ft.Hood. I bought a 200 cc Pursang. That started my love affair with Bultaco. I raced them until I got shot.

ReplyDeleteA complete restoration to me is bringing it back to showroom. This SC500 looks good but not 100 point. I would say 90
