1976 Yamaha OW72 for sale at the 2017 Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction

Did not meet reserve. Top bid was $35,000.

  1. did it come with race history and service records and riders who might have gave it a good thrashing like redheaded stepchild? or maybe it was a practice bike and spare race bike or maybe ridden around the fairgrounds by a sexy flag girl? maybe the bike is a hoax. a fake. but probably not.

    1. According to the Mecum literature this was "The King" Kenny Roberts' personal race bike. If that's true I can only imagine the "good thrashing" he would have given it.

  3. I have one that looks similar if not the same. Can anybody help me identify what I have..

    1. You probably have an XS650 based motorcycle. If it looks like this it would be a flat track racer. If it's street legal it would probably be a street tracker, which is a street bike made to look like a flat track bike. If you actually have an OW72 then you have a purpose built race bike with the motor supplied by the Yamaha racing program.
